Course Overview

The HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing is a nationally recognised qualification that equips individuals with the skills and knowledge required to work as an Enrolled Nurse in various healthcare settings. This comprehensive program covers essential nursing practices, including patient care, medication administration, wound management, and infection control. It combines theoretical learning with practical experience, preparing graduates to provide high-quality care to patients under the supervision of Registered Nurses or other healthcare professionals.

Classes are rostered for 3 days per week + self-study component.
Full Time studies require students to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.

Course Entry Requirements

  • Completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent; OR
  • Completion of a Certificate IV level or higher qualification or equivalent

Applicants must meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA)# English Language Registration Standard:

  • Primary Language Pathway – Complete a declaration to declare English as their primary language; OR
  • English Language Test Pathway – Provide test result reports for one of the following tests taken within the 2 years prior to completing an application (English Language test scores below apply from April 2025):
    • Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency): Minimum overall score of 185 and a minimum overall score of 185 in each of the first three components (listening, reading, speaking) and a minimum score of 176 in the final component (writing)
    • IELTS Academic: Overall score of at least 7.0 and a minimum score of 7 in the each of the first three components (listening, reading, speaking) and a minimum score of 6.5 in the final component (writing)
    • PTE Academic: Minimum overall score of at least 66 and a minimum score of 66 in each of the first three communicative skills (listening, reading, speaking) and a minimum score of 56 in the final communicative skill (writing)
    • OET: Minimum score of B in each of the first three components (listening, reading, speaking) and a minimum score of C+ in the final component (writing)
    • TOEFL iBT: Minimum total score of 94 and with a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 24 for writing and 23 for speaking

The above results can be from one test sitting, or a maximum of two test sittings in a 12-month period only if:

  • Cambridge (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency):
    • you are tested in all four components in each sitting
    • you achieve a minimum score of 185 in each component for listening, reading and speaking and a minimum score of 176 for writing across the two sittings, and
    • when using two test sittings, no score in any component of the test(s) for either test sitting is below 176

    • when using two test sittings, no score in any component of the test(s) for either test sitting is below C+.
  • TOEFL iBT:
    • a minimum total score of 94 is achieved in each sitting, and
    • you achieve a minimum score of 24 for listening, 24 for reading, 24 for writing and 23 for speaking across the two sittings, and
    • when using two test sittings, no score in any of the sections here is below; 20 for listening, 19 for reading, 24 for writing, and 20 for speaking

Other Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of course commencement
  • Successful completion of the language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) test and demonstration of competence level as exit level 3
  • Completion of a Pre-Enrolment Interview

Stanley College requires that students for this course have ‘basic computer literacy’ which covers the most common usages of a computer, including; managing computer files, word processing, using spreadsheets and databases; creating presentations; finding information and communicating using computers; and being aware of social and ethical implications of Internet use.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition is available (on application) to students with prior skills, experience, knowledge or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training, in a related area. Recognition may reduce the duration of your studies.

Graduates of the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing are eligible to register as Enrolled Nurses (ENs) and can seek employment across various settings such as hospitals, aged care, disability services, community health, and acute care facilities.

Clinical Work Placement

During Clinical Work Placement, you will be able to practice your skills and knowledge in real workplace settings. This will assist you to be job-ready> at graduation. Stanley College has entered into Clinical Work Placement agreements with a number of employers.

The Clinical Work Placement is organised by Stanley College’s Employment Liaison Team in consultation with students. Before commencement of Clinical Work Placement, students are also required to provide:

  • National Police Certificate^, must be less than 6 months’ old
  • WA Department of Health Criminal History Record Check
  • Evidence of Current Vaccinations#
  • Evidence of COVID-19 Vaccination
  • Medical Clearance may also be required

All fees/charges associated with the additional documentation listed above are not included in course tuition fees and payment is the responsibility of the student.

ˆ National Police Certificate (NPC) contains a list of a person’s disclosable court outcomes and pending charges from all Australian police jurisdictions. This includes traffic and non police prosecuted matters. Where a student has ‘disclosable outcomes or pending charges’ then this may impact Stanley College being able to successfully place them with a Clinical Work Placement Host Employer, which may impact students being able to successfully complete their studies.

# The Department of Health WA mandates that all health students be vaccinated against a variety of diseases, including but not limited to; Influenza, Hepatitis B, Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Pertussis, Varicella, Tuberculosis and MRSA screening if indicated. Students are required to submit immunisation evidence verified by a registered doctor (General Practitioner – GP), using the ‘Sonia Online’ Clinical Placement System.

** Please note – To be employed as a Nurse, a Current Working with Children Check (WWCC) is not required. However, where Clinical Work Placement takes place in a children’s hospital or ward, Clinical Work Placement employers will require that you obtain one prior to commencing your Clinical Work Placement.

Student Registration and Mandatory Reporting Requirements

Stanley College will, under the National Law, register students enrolled in the HLT54121 Diploma of Nursing with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for the duration of their studies.
